Many fans were sketchy of the new Spider-Man movie that premiered on July 7. The trailers and posters had fans speculating whether or not this would be Spidey's movie or Iron Man's next movie. But to the fans' surprise, Spider-Man: Homecoming came out to be one of Marvel's greatest successes.
Tom Holland is the star of the show in this new film, starring as Peter Parker/Spider-Man as he struggles to keep up with school and his social life while fighting crime as the amazing Spider-Man. Taking place a few months after the events of Captain America: Civil War, Peter has signed up to partake in missions that Tony Stark and Happy Hogan will assign him to. Unfortunately for our web-slinging hero, they have mostly ignored Peter and have given him no missions or assignments at all.
The role of Peter Parker is perfect for Tom Holland in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Holland's acting is one of the best parts of the film and is a fun Spider-Man that can deliver anything from an awkward, funny line to an entire emotional scene.
The main antagonist of the film is Adrian Toomes, also known as the Vulture. Ever since the battle of New York, Toomes and his goons have scavenged high-grade technology from the wreckage of the Chitauri invasion and the Ultron attacks. The Vulture, the Tinkerer and the Shocker proceed to use this technology for their own benefits, thus resulting in the Vulture's epic-looking suit.
Throughout the film, Spider-Man tracks down the Vulture and his gang to stop them from wrecking any havoc with these new weapons, in spite of Tony Stark. Despite siding with the Sokovian Accords in Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man wants to take things into his own hands and proceeds to go after the villains while Iron Man lectures him about leaving this job up to the bigger heroes like him. If there is anything this movie proves, it is that Captain America's side in Civil War was right all along.
Overall, Spider-Man: Homecoming has been a spectacular film to watch. The humor is pleasant and entertaining, the cast of side characters are a loveable group and Spider-Man has proven to be the next best addition to the MCU and its cast of Avengers.
So far the film has brought in over $130 million at the box office and has a brilliant score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.
